After a Documentary, We are VEGAN.

Oh, so like everyone else in the world, we watched What the Health. Okay, not everybody but it seems like a lot of people have seen it and now are changing their eating.

 

This documentary is even changing what people are eating at Musikfest. The Vegan food truck at Musikfest reported that sales have been up since the documentary. Interesting? Of course, we had to try their sandwich. Yum! Here is a shout out to Try Vegan.

This life changing video came to me through Netflix and the title honestly intrigued me.  What the Health!

I really wasn’t expecting anything new. I mean this type of documentary has been done before.

Food Inc., Fed Up (FU), Supersize Me, Fork over Knives and the famous slaughter house tale dating back to I don’t know early Industrial Revolution times with Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle. For years, people have reported issues with the food industry in America and I can only presume that this will continue. Not saying What the Health will fade into the history books as another food documentary but this isn’t the first and it won’t be the last because there is an issue.

And this issue is not just with the food but everything about how we live. 😦

salad-2157796_1920.jpgSo on a boring Sunday night, I watched What the Health with my husband. We sat. We watched. We watched some more. We groaned. We turned it off at the hour mark. We had enough. The documentary started to wear on us. It can be a horror movie for some. I mean the message, the connections between the money and companies, and how our health is being played by not only the government but big money companies. IS as scary as a suspense movie!!! You have to watch the documentary to truly get what I am talking about.

Eventually, we gained the courage enough to finish the film one afternoon and then we didn’t feel good. Actually, we felt sick to our stomachs. Ugh.

So instead of ignoring the message, we committed to eating less meat and trying to try being vegan for awhile and see how being vegan would improve our health.

Now I could just let this documentary roll over me but after watching a few of them with similar messages I am like this can’t be just a fad or trend or a whatever but fact!

Okay, saying you are vegan is easy. Trying to eat vegan is another whole thing especially for beginners. Especially with kids. We had a little push back on our decision until we had them watch the video. After that, they were sold on the new cooking style in the house.

On Sunday, August 6, 2017, we declared the house was going vegan. And I am proud to say we have stayed fruit-2135857_1920strong so far. It is August 9th today and we continue to focus on what we put in our mouth.

Now it has only been like 3 days and amazingly, we are feeling healthier than before. We have noted that the greasy feeling after eating meat isn’t there, we are not so blotted after dinner, and we have increased energy levels. Hmmm.

I am not sure if it’s the vegan food yet but something tells me including more veggies and less processed food has something to do with how we are presently feeling.

This change has pushed me to try new foods like some salad thing at West End Yoga.

  1. Fork over Knifes – This site is packed with helpful ideas to eat healthier and be more mindful of what you eat. You can also watch the documentary on Netflix! There is an app but I haven’t tried it yet.
  2. Minimalist Baker – I made the simply vegan brownies! Yum. There are so much on this site to click and preview. I love this site’s easy layout and simple and yummy recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert.
